Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and drug possession is considered a serious crime by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. People convicted of DUI face mandatory minimum sentences, even when it is a first offense. A conviction results in jail time, at least a one-year drivers' license suspension, court-ordered treatment programs, and substantial fines. Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) is an alternative to mandatory sentencing. ARD is a pre-trial disposition in which the District Attorney agrees to suspend prosecution of your Driving Under the Influence or possession charge for a period of time in exchange for your successful participation in a rehabilitative program.
